Jesus Himself was the first missionary! He did not sit by passively and let those who happened to be interested in His teaching come to Him. He went out where the sick, the sorrowing, and the sad were, and expounded His message of joy, healing, and salvation. Even at a tender age, He went to the Temple and “taught” the doctors and lawyers who were entrenched in the old traditions. He found His way to the seaside and intruded upon the life of the commonest of laborers, saying, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Wherever He went He challenged, uprooted, and changed men. And at length they nailed Him to a cross because He had upset their selfish, secure, self-righteous way of life. Not only was Jesus a missionary, but He pledged His followers to be missionaries, too!
Candlelight supports a variety of Missions around the globe with the vision of being Ambassadors and “Fishers of Men” by showing His love and taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth.
Asif Arthur
Asia Missions
Candlelight’s Asia Mission was founded in 2015 in partnership with Dr. Asif Arthur. It currently ministers to Pakistani and Indian Christians spread worldwide, many of whom have fled their homes and are living as refugees in Thailand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Cambodia. Once a Pakistani refugee living in Thailand, Pastor Asif is now on staff full-time at Candlelight Christian Fellowship in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. In addition to arranging weekly online services for Pakistani and Indian Christians, he also works translating the Bible and other church materials from English into Urdu and Punjabi.

The Shepherd’s Light is a non-profit charity that has a goal of reaching Israel with the Good News of Jesus the Messiah and bringing His hope and peace to the Jewish people. Stephen and Patricia minister to the poor, run a soup kitchen, give supplies to various types of medical outreaches, including kits, gas masks and war supplies, blankets, clothing, jackets, and care for the homeless and those in severe poverty.
The Shepherd’s Light was established in 2007 by Stephen and Patricia Apple. Two people who felt God calling them to minister in Israel. They first went in 2004 with little money, leaving their family, friends, and everything familiar to them.

Through mentoring, group programs, juvenile detention chaplaincy, counseling and activity scholarships, and practical support for families, JJO helps young people overcome barriers and become positive influences in their communities.

While they often are recognized for their work with hotels, they also place and distribute Scriptures in strategic locations so they are available to those who want them, as well as to those who may not know they need them.

Emma & James
Missionaries to South Asia
Emma and James serve as missionaries in Southeast Asia with Fire and Fragrance, living in the Himalayan region. Together, they are CrossFit coaches who use fitness as a platform for evangelism—building relationships and creating opportunities to share the message of Jesus. Emma is additional training as a pregnancy and postpartum CrossFit coach and is trained as a birth doula, using these skills to support their shared heart to care for people holistically while pointing them to Christ.
The gym community within Fire and Fragrance ministry also hosts what’s called the Gurkha Games, a growing CrossFit event with over 100 competing athletes that reaches hundreds of the Himalayan people each year. Emma and James help lead and serve through this event as part of their broader ministry. As a team, they also trek Bibles into remote Himalayan villages, using their fitness and endurance to bring the gospel to places that would otherwise have no access to the message of Jesus.
Currently, they are taking a short sabbatical to heal and process the loss of their baby this past year, getting help and counseling in Tennessee. They hope to return in October or November.

Joe & Lupita Tometich
Mexico Missionaries
Joe and Lupita first met in 1989 while serving in ministry in Mexico. At the time, Joe was traveling monthly from California on short-term mission trips with his church, where he met Lupita, who was already serving as a missionary at the same orphanage their church supported.
After an extended long-distance courtship, the Lord opened the door in 1992 for Joe to move to Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, to serve as a missionary. A few months later, they were married in Tijuana. Together they have two beautiful adult daughters, Candice and Cristy.
Over the past thirty-three years, Joe and Lupita have had the privilege of serving in a variety of ministries, including twenty-five years as full-time missionaries in Mexico. From 1994 to 2002, they founded and pastored Calvary Rosarito, located just thirty minutes south of the San Diego border. After turning the church over to new leadership, they spent another three years ministering in various parts of southern Mexico before returning to the United States in 2005.
In early 2015, the Lord once again called them back to Mexico. They have been sent out from Calvary Chapel West Houston. They currently live in the coastal central state of Nayarit in the town of Bucerias, where Joe pastors a small church, and Lupita leads a thriving children’s ministry. She also oversees an after-school tutoring program that helps underprivileged local children learn to read and write. Through this ministry, they have had the privilege of helping several at-risk children enroll in school for the very first time and even excel beyond their fellow students.

ABWE Missionaries
The Gambia, West Africa
The Youde family previously served underprivileged youth and families in Costa Rica's Central Pacific region. They have now officially transitioned to missionary work in The Gambia, West Africa -- a small, predominantly Muslim nation where less than 1% of the population is evangelical Christian. The Youdes are currently engaged in pre-field training as they prepare to join an existing ABWE team.
In The Gambia, they will focus on identifying and encouraging local church leaders and Christian college students in their faith and biblical knowledge. The long-term goal is to establish a self-sustaining movement of healthy Gambian churches that disciple believers, evangelize the lost, and plant new congregations. The Youdes will also continue to use children's programs like youth sports and ESL courses to open doors to new relationships and the Gospel. Guided by Psalm 143:8, they trust God to show them the way as they bring the hope of the Gospel to this unreached context.
